Paul Basel, MS, LPC-A
Licensed Professional Counselor Associate
MS, Southern Connecticut State University
BS, Sacred Heart University
Paul takes an integrative and eclectic approach to counseling, drawing on Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-informed/third-wave cognitive behavioral approaches, solution-focused, Gestalt, existential, narrative, somatic, queer-theory, and liberation psychology. Paul’s way of getting to know folks is deeply rooted in Jungian approaches to personality and is further informed by their experience with indigenous healing traditions (rooted in their embodied experience with various yogic, Zen, and Vajrayana traditions).
Rather than applying a single formula, Paul draws from these approaches to meet each client where they are and find what feels most useful. Their style is direct, warm, humorous, creative, and deeply intentional. Working with Paul often involves working through difficult past experiences, creative approaches to navigating present-day challenges, exploring identity and relationships, the importance of movement/play/music/exercise/nutrition to holistic wellness, and via engaging in creative and unexpected ways of getting to know deeper aspects of the self.
For Paul, therapy is a collaborative process of becoming more curious about who we are, developing greater self-compassion, discovering new ways of moving through the world, & embracing the challenge of returning home to our whole, healed selves.
